Here is an image of the front panel of the interface: However, thus far, I've only ever had my monitors plugged into the Main out and the Mix knob turned all the way to PB - and I use monitoring with record-armed in Reaper to hear my instrument/line-in.Īs a newbie, I fail to see the use cases for using the Playback outputs or turning the Mix knob elsewhere in its range. I also understand how the Headphones out is tied to the PB1 and how the Monitor A/B switch controls which Playback Output is sent to. I understand how the inputs are arrayed for Stereo/Mono, as well. I know the PB means only the audio that is sent from the USB and IN means DI from the 4 inputs. It has a Mix knob which has IN on the left and PB on the right. My short term goal right now is to record a few cover songs with my wife (she plays the Uke and sings) but I'd like to eventually use it to record and mix my own stuff.Īnyway, the UMC404HD has 3 pairs of outputs. I got these things so I could record myself in part for analysis of my practice and as well as to work on my song composition. I'm a guitarist and I'm learning the keys, too. I have it connected to a pair of active studio monitors (M-Audio BX5a). I picked up a UMC404HD and I've been watching tons and tons of videos about, and have begun using, Reaper DAW. I am a newbie to the world of audio recording. I'm wondering if this is a better place to ask? I posted this in /r/audioengineering but no one could answer the main 5 questions.
